Five people in New York have been arrested after the authorities reportedly seized massive amounts of drugs, firearms and drug paraphernalia. On Oct. 26, police executed their first search warrant at one of the suspect’s residences in Columbia County. Police claim to have uncovered large amounts of cocaine, heroin, packaging and scales to weigh the drugs. The individual was arrested on multiple drug charges.
Two days later, the authorities searched the residences of two more suspects. They reportedly discovered large quantities of cocaine, marijuana, heroin, scales, paraphernalia and a firearm. Both individuals were arrested on drug charges and illegal possession of a firearm. Finally, the authorities committed another search a day after these arrests. At the final suspects’ house, the police claim to have discovered cocaine, ecstasy, scales, packaging, firearms and over $1,000 in cash. Two individuals were arrested on drug charges and illegal firearm possession.
In all, the authorities claim to have uncovered large amounts of cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana and heroin worth over $50,000 on the streets. The individuals are accused of trafficking drugs throughout the region. Since the investigation is still ongoing, more charges might arrive in the coming weeks.
What can you do if you’re facing drug charges?
Fighting back against drug charges can seem daunting, particularly if you believe that the authorities have solid evidence. If you’ve been charged with additional crimes like robbery, assault or resisting arrest, you might feel like you’re dealing with an open-and-shut case.
However, no case is guaranteed to win or lose no matter how airtight the evidence might appear. A criminal defense attorney may be able to defend your rights by pointing out evidence that was obtained illegally. They may also be able to help you argue for reduced charges in court.
